Congregation


The Congregation of the Servant Sisters of Virgin Mary Immaculate Conception was founded by a lay man bl. Edmund Bojanowski (1814-1871). On May 3, 1850 he opened the first facility in Podrzecze, near Gostyn, Poland. The main purpose of the place was to help the local children. The activity of Edmund Bojanowski was influenced by his deep inner life. He was a man of faith and prayer. The special place in his spiritual life was reserved for Virgin Mary, and to her Glory the name was chosen and the service was and still is dedicated. He devoted his life to serving the children, the poor and the sick. Edmund Bojanowski was beatified by Pope John Paul II on 13 June, 1999 and set as an example of Christian life. During E. Bojanowski's life the Congregation was developing in Wielkopolska , Galicja, Slask, Krolestwo Polskie. The growth was soon halted by the occupation authorities. The Congregation was divided into four autonomous ones. They have become the Federation of the Servant Sisters Congregations with four headquarters in Pleszewo, Debica, Wrocław, and Stara Wies.

The headquarters of Servants Sisters in Stara Wies. At present Servant Sisters of Stara Wies work in Poland and othter European Countries, in Africa, Asia, and North America. They fulfill the charisma of the Founder and remain open to the needs of the social conditions of the given country. They work in the spirit of simplicity, love and service. One of the facilities run by the Congregation is the Chotomow Orphanage. The Controlling faculty is the Congregation of the province of Łódz with the headquarter in the city of Lodz.
